I love dogs especially Golden Retrievers - Agent S and L not so much. Cats don't really smell bad unless they're in a confined area with no ventilation but dogs after a bath or after frolicking in the damp grass or chasing a frog amongst the muddy earth?...phoooh!

We recently hacked an Ikea furniture, we made ​​something else out of it. I always wanted a dog house for our half breed dog Benno (size about knee high), but all I could find in stores was either very expensive or treated with wood preservatives or I did not like it. To build a dog house is not a problem for my husband (except time problem!) but it should go rather quickly and be done in an afternoon. So I looked for a small table where you just had to screw boards on it. I find it at Ikea.

The SNIGLAR diaper-changing table is untreated and ideal in size. Left over from another project we had untreated wood panels that my husband properly cut and screwed on three sides. We skipped the lower shelf cause we inserted a wooden pallet which is Benno’s sleeping place for years. But it is no problem to move the lower shelf to the bottom and this is the base for the doghouse. Above we now have a practical storage and the cat basket has also space. Our dog Benno is overjoyed and was sitting in his house, while my husband was still screwing on the boards.

I just finished reading "Cowboy and Wills" written by Monica Holloway, the mum of a brilliant three-year-old son, Wills, who was diagnosed with having autism spectrum disorder. I found the book among piles of books at the Big Bad Wolf sale recently and was drawn by Wills sparkling blue eyes smiling at the camera with a golden retriever next to him. I usually try to avoid books and movies that involve animals as they are sure to make me cry. Needless to say, I bawled my eyes out over this book.

The books starts off with Will's mum trying to accept the devastating news that there was indeed something special about her son. So to make herself (and Will) feel better, they make their way to a pet store to buy an aquarium. And this was the first of many trips to come. Not surprisingly, their garden becomes a mini-zoo consisting of gerbils, hamsters, rabbits, and even a turtle.

But while Wills diligently tends to the growing menagerie, what he really wants is a puppy. And one Christmas, when Wills is six, Cowboy Carol Lawrence joins their family. Cowboy is truly one of a kind, and you will fall in love with her energy and adorable antics. (yes, she is a female puppy!)

She gives Wills the confidence to step outside his world and helps him communicate with his peers as well as the caring (and not so caring) adults around him.

Monica writes in a way that makes you feel that you are right there with them when events unfold. She includes the conversations exchanged which make it seem like the scenes were unfolding right before your eyes.

A must-read for animal lovers for sure!

When Agent S first moved in with us, we were pretty strict saying that he had to stay off the carpets and human furniture. He followed the rules and stayed just outside the carpet. Over the weeks, he started creeping further onto the carpet and before we knew it, he was lying in the middle of our hall carpet with no care in the world.

So we decided, "OK. The carpet is easy enough to vacuum but he CANNOT get onto our furniture and NO WAY will he sleep with us." I'm sure you can guess the end results. Agent L really got it easy as Agent S had basically broken all the rules before she came on board.

We are lucky, though, that they only limit themselves to scratching the carpet. My hubby thinks they also scratch the sofas but I believe the sofas are just tearing at the seams due to old age.

As our apartment has mostly brown/beige coloured furniture, we don't have much of a visible coat of shedded fur covering our furniture. (Can't say the same about our clothing!)
